CONSTRUCTS: Objects That Transcend Conventional Categorization
CONSTRUCT: to make or form by combining or arranging parts or elements.
The CONSTRUCTS series began in my sketchbook, a space free from the expectation of producing finished artwork. Through quick, intuitive thumbnail drawings, experimentation became central to the process. These exploratory studies formed the conceptual foundation for an ongoing body of work.
The series now includes over 85 works on 20 × 23 inch raw canvas. Using line, shape, and color, I incorporate refurbished canvas scraps, acrylic paint, collage, and wood dowels to build forms that sit between painting and object. The raw canvas remains visible, emphasizing process, structure, and material presence. The CONSTRUCTS hold tension between flatness and volume, control and improvisation, clarity and ambiguity—allowing meaning to remain open and responsive to individual ways of seeing.
